San
Jose Police Misconduct.
Welcome to
San-Jose.Police-Misconduct.org. This
website is to address the problem of
Police Misconduct, Brutality, and Corruption within the San
Jose Police Department ( SJPD
) in San Jose,
California, and to provide links to Police Misconduct
related information and resources relevant to San Jose,
California.
The San Jose Police
Department (SJPD) has been engulfed in heavy controversy in recent years under the
leadership of San Jose Police Chief: Robert Davis. The San
Jose Police Department is widely considered to be one of the most corrupt
and problematic police
departments in the region partly due to recent high profile police brutality
cases involving batons and tasers, The shooting deaths of
several individuals, and the city's astronomically high
"drunk in public" arrest rate, in which an alarmingly high
number of those arrested were Latino, and the San
Jose Police Department's alleged harsh treatment of ethnic minorities and low
income / un-housed residents, etc.
San Jose has a number of Civil Rights Government Watch Dog
Organizations and advocacy groups such as San
Jose Copwatch and Silicon Valley De-Bug which
together, have worked tirelessly
to address these issues on behalf of the community, and to bring about accountability and reform to the San Jose Police
Department.
The Independent
Police Auditors office was established to monitor and facilitate the San
Jose's Police Misconduct Citizen's Complaint process through SJPD's Internal
Affairs unit. Unlike SJPD Internal Affairs, the Independent
Police Auditors office operates independently of the San Jose Police
Department and reports directly
to the San Jose City Council and Mayor Chuck Reed.
Hopefully, this
website will help to demonstrate the serious problems the San Jose
Community has had to deal with concerning Police Misconduct, allow Victims of the San Jose Police
( and families of SJPD Victims
) to share their ideas and experiences, express their anger, pain, anguish
and frustration, offer support to each other in these times of
tribulation, and to empower members
of the community to unite with each other and join forces with local pro-activists
and community groups in the San Jose Area to bring about positive
and productive change to the San Jose Community and accountability and reform
to SJPD.
